GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation)

The new law, GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation), is a regulation aimed at increasing the safety and transparency of consumer products within the EU.

As of December 13, 2024, the GPSR will replace the previous General Product Safety Directive (GPSD). The regulation introduces stricter requirements for safety standards and product information to protect consumers and provide greater transparency.

What does GPSR mean in practice?

- Improved product traceability: All products covered by the GPSR must be clearly marked with the information required to trace manufacturers and distributors.
- Higher safety standards: GPSR requires that all products must be safe to use under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions.
- More consumer information: Customers must be able to easily access relevant information about the product, including any warnings and safety instructions.
- Digital product information: For certain products, it will be possible to supplement physical labeling with digital information via QR codes or similar technologies.
- Faster handling of dangerous products: GPSR introduces new procedures to more quickly identify and address products that may pose a risk to consumers.
